Iran is actively advancing the process of what it calls the world's largest methanol plant. Mohammad Hassan Peyvandi, head of Iran’s national petrochemical company, said recently that 70% of the methanol project in Bandar, a coastal city on the Persian Gulf, has been completed.
The device is designed to produce 2 million tons of methanol annually and will be put into production in two phases. The first phase of the project will be put into production in August this year and will be fully loaded in 2016. The device uses the production technology of the Casale company in Switzerland. Iran plans to increase its annual methanol production capacity to 25 million tons in the next five years and become an important global methanol supplier.
