Coca-Cola Company, Ford Motor Company, Heinz (HJ Heinz), Nike and Procter & Gamble announced on June 6 that they will jointly establish the Plant-based PET Technical Cooperation Alliance (PTC), focusing on accelerating development and Use 100% plant-based PET material and fiber.
Through the lead role of PTC, it actively influences the application of plant-based PET materials in other industries. PTC members will work on the research and development of commercial solutions for PET plastics made from plants, and will promote the development of common technologies and standards for plant-based plastics, including life cycle analysis and the use of generic terms.
The PTC builds on the success of Coca-Cola's PlantBottle packaging technology. PlantBottle's packaging technology is made from plants and has proven to have lower environmental impact than traditional PET plastic bottles. At present, Heinz has obtained a technology license from Coca-Cola Company and is allowed to apply on the Heinz ketchup bottles in the United States and Canada.
PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a durable, lightweight plastic that is widely used in plastic bottles, clothing, footwear, automotive fabrics, and carpets.
