On March 18th, behind the glory of Tianjin FAW Junpai A50, a generation of national car brand Xiali, officially low-key exited the historical stage.
From 1986 to 2018, the Xiali brand completed its journey from birth to growth. Its body bears the feelings of the first generation of automobile consumers in China, and also witnesses the vigorous development of automobile consumption in these 32 years. However, unfortunately, it has not been able to follow the flood of the development of China's automobile industry. Let yourself go further and become stronger.
People are not surprised by the ending of Xiali. In fact, from the time of the launch of the Junpai brand in 2014, Tianjin FAW began to gradually weaken the Xiali brand, and the loss of the Xiali brand has become the “post-entry†of FAW's own brand passenger car business.
According to the statistics of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers in the past two years, the production and sales volume of the Xiali brand models in the past two years is almost in a "half-stop" state. In 2016, the production and sales of Xiali brand cars were 10,579 and 11,672 respectively, to 2017. In the year, it continued to fall to the 5,941 and 5,949 vehicles. Since July 2017, the monthly output of the Xiali brand cars has been zero.
Whether it is the glory of the past or the decline of the present, the trajectory of the Xiali brand has made the people unforgettable. Some people say that the disappearance of the Xiali brand confirms that even more emotions must follow the laws of market rules. Some people say that the exit of the Xiali brand is that after the growth, the rhythm is not stepped in during product launch and transformation. There are some consequences for consumer demand; some people say that the farewell of Xiali brand is the choice made by China FAW at the group level to fully integrate the planning of the self-owned brand passenger vehicle business segment, and Tianjin FAW will be “lightly loadedâ€. Based on the Chunpai brand, we are free from the burden of the Xiali brand.
Today, regardless of gains and losses, we only bid farewell to Xiali in terms of memories.
♦ The birth of the Xiali brand
In 1986, Tianjin Automotive Industry Corporation decided to introduce the Daihatsu Charade model in the form of CKD and was named "Xia Li".
At the end of September of the same year, the first Xiali, produced by CKD, went offline and was listed as TJ730. The shape of the first models is basically the same as that of the prototype. It is designed for the hatchback and is equipped with a TJ376Q three-cylinder 1.0L engine with a maximum output of 39kW and a maximum torque of 77N•m.
♦ Golden Age Since 1987, capacity expansion has been carried out. In 1989, the annual production capacity of 30,000 Xiali sedan bodies and 10,000 assembled vehicles was formed.
From 1987 to 1990, Xiali’s localization rate increased rapidly, from 11% to over 40%.
In 1988, the improved version of the Xiali model, the TJ7100, was fitted with a 1.0-liter inline three-cylinder engine from Daihatsu, Japan, with a maximum output of 38 kW and a maximum torque of 75 N•m with a four-speed manual transmission.
In October 1990, the first sedan Xiali was off the assembly line and sold for 100,000 yuan. It is a "luxury" that a very small number of consumers can have.
In August 1997, Tianjin Mini Vehicle Factory was reorganized into Tianjin Xiali Automobile Co., Ltd., and Xiali officially became an independent automobile brand.
At the end of 1997, the TJ7130UA's redesigned Xiali was launched. The car is equipped with a 1.3L Toyota 8A inline four-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 76kW, a maximum torque of 120N•m, a top speed of 165km/h and a 5-speed manual transmission.
In 1999, Xiali introduced the TJ7101 and TJ7131 vehicles that meet environmental requirements, all using EFI engines. During this period, in addition to the private consumer market, the Xiali sedan has become the main model of domestic taxis, and the durable and economical features of the leather are deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
In 2000, Tianjin FAW introduced the Toyota Platz model and named it "Xia Li 2000". This model bid farewell to the shadow of Xiali, enriched the product lineup of Tianjin FAW, and has substantially improved the comfort, but the sales of this model is ideal.
♦ Brilliant period In 2004, the 1 millionth car of the Xiali brand went offline.
In August 2004, Xiali’s third-generation model, the N3, was launched, and the N-series models were officially launched.
In November 2009, Tianjin FAW's 2 millionth car was launched, and Xiali pushed the new N5.
In 2011, FAW Xiali's annual sales volume was 253,000 units, a record high in the history of the year.
In 2013, Xiali's first crossover N7 was launched.
♦ Towards a decline Since 2013, FAW Xiali’s net profit has been lost.
The sales of Xiali brand models including N3, N5 and N7 have fallen sharply.
Starting in July 2017, as of the latest statistics (February 2018), the production of the Xiali brand model has been zero for 8 consecutive months.
As of 2017, the accumulated loss of FAW Xiali has exceeded 3 billion yuan.
In November 2017, FAW transferred the shares of FAW Xiali, but it ended up without results.
In March 2018, the Xiali brand ended.
